core values
Public Education-Public education is the cornerstone to a democratic society. It should employ highly qualified staff and be adequately funded so that every child, regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or economic status can receive a quality education without fear of discrimination.
Professional Development--Our future success as classroom teachers, our image as professionals and our strength as public education advocate is directly correlated to the quality of teachers that we become and to the degree that we work to develop our craft. We must take the initiative to develop ourselves, beyond our college class work, as professionals to include being informed about issues such as licensure and certification.
Networking— with current and future colleagues—Being connected to the world is more effective than working as an island. Becoming connected to the association, community and each other as colleagues is critical to our success as future educators.
Community Involvement-Respect and support for public education professionals from our communities is important and it requires our organization to engage in community service projects and to speak positively about the profession as future public educators.
Leadership Development-Leadership is inherently related to being an educator. As leaders, we must work to be process-oriented, purposeful, and ethical while empowering our students and colleagues alike to reach their goals.
Citizen Action--Professional Development alone will not ensure our success as future teachers. We must engage in becoming knowledgeable about current public education policy, understand its impact on our future profession, and promote the civic responsibility of voting in every election.
